How to make your LinkedIn profile work for you

Recruiters search LinkedIn every day, and your profile is often the first thing they see after your resume. A few focused changes make you easier to find and quicker to say yes to.

  1. 01

    Use a clear, recent photo

A well-lit photo where your face fills most of the frame, with a plain background. A clear photo helps recruiters recognize you.

  2. 02

Make your headline more than a job title

Say what you do, your specialty and the value you bring, using words recruiters search for. "Open to opportunities" on its own tells them nothing.

  3. 03

Hook them in the first lines of About

Only the start of your About section shows before "see more". Lead with who you help and how, then add proof and the roles you want.

  4. 04

    Write experience like your resume

Use the same achievement-focused bullets with numbers, so your profile and resume tell the same story.

  5. 05

Add the skills recruiters search for

List the skills from the job descriptions you're targeting, and put the most important ones at the top so they're seen first.

  6. 06

    Tell recruiters you're open

Turn on Open to Work and set it to recruiters only if you're job hunting quietly. Add the job titles and locations you want so the right searches find you.

Frequently asked questions

Is the LinkedIn guide free?
Yes. Enter your name and email above and download it instantly. There's no card and no account needed.
What should I put in my LinkedIn headline?
Your role, your specialty and the value you bring, in the words recruiters search for, rather than just your current job title. Our list of LinkedIn headline examples has more than 60 you can adapt.
Should I turn on Open to Work?
If you're actively looking, yes. You can show it to recruiters only. LinkedIn tries to hide it from recruiters at your current company, but it can't guarantee that, so keep it in mind if you're searching quietly.
What do you do with my email?
We keep it with your download request. We won't send you marketing emails unless you've opted in, and you can ask us to delete it any time at saad@jobzhub.com. Our privacy policy explains the rest.
